Family Weekend

I went to Arizona yet AGAIN this past weekend. This time Kristie and her family were there too. We had a fun short trip seeing all the kids.

Twinzies

As everyone knows, I have twin sisters. Nowadays everyone in Hollywood-Charlie Sheen, Rebecca Romeijn, Brad and Angelina, Marcia Cross, J Lo, etc.- is having twins (most likely due to fertility treatment in most cases, although they all act like it is just a coincidence that they are in their 40's, got pregnant, and had twins naturally). Just a few weeks ago I was at Katie's and her friend came over with little twin boys. Twins just seem to be all over the place, and I tell Adam all the time how I would LOVE to have twins!

Well, this morning before I came to work a different type of twins crossed my path. I got home from the gym and smelled eggs. We usually don't cook breakfast before work, but I had told Adam our eggs were going to go bad so he must have had the idea to cook a few. I got out of the shower and still smelled food and was getting hungry so I decided to cook myself the last egg. I cracked the egg and started separating the yolks from the white, when I noticed two yolks-the egg was a twin! I know this isn't uncommon, but I had never seen it and it never has happened to me.

For some wacko reason, I felt really sad. I am by no means an animal rights activist or a vegetarian, but it made me super sad that these twins weren't born because people want to eat them. I don't know if it's because of Katie and Kristie or all the happy little twins I see around, but after seeing the egg was twins, I didn't want to eat it anymore. I usually don't eat the yolks anyways, but I felt bad throwing them away too.

I solved my dilema by cooking them up and giving Diggy a nice hot breakfast. At least he didn't know what we had done to the nice twin chickens.

The Importance of Water...

I started my new job last week and loved it. Of course, since it's a clinic with a very poor population, the no-show rate is about 50%. I had 4 patients scheduled and 2 showed, both hispanic pregnant women-one I think was doing very well for herself and the other needed mucho mucho help. Since I had two hours of no patients, I had some free time to orient myself with the nutrition counseling room. I had a good amount of time to look at all of the resources they have for pregnant women on all sorts of topics like food safety, getting enough folate, and the importance of hydration and WATER...

Speaking of water...the day after I was reading up on how important it is I learned just how much of a role water plays in my life. I was doing my normal Friday routine (clean up the house a little, put in a load of laundry, go work out, put next load in when I get home) and went to put in my second load of laundry when the machine wouldn't work. I was confused because my first load worked fine so I went back into the house. I turned on the sink to refill our water pitcher but no water would come out. Pretty odd that the laundry machine and the sink, which I had been using all morning, didn't work. I then tried the bathroom sink, the shower, the toilet and realized we had no water.

Turns out our top notch landlord (yep, the same one who still hasn't fixed our sink in our bathroom that has been leaking since Feb 08, sits in the backyard smoking cigars, and is altogether a huge creep) forgot for the second time since we have lived in our house to pay the water bill. AND to top it off, us and the neighbors tried calling multiple times and he would not answer his phone. He finally called back Saturday and claimed that he didn't get any of the 100 messages we all left and was going to pay it then, but we already had talked to the water authority and they couldn't turn it back on until Monday. He is the biggest loser I know and I can't wait til we buy our own place!

Anyways, until you don't have water, you do not realize how much of a necessity it is! We went and bought a few jugs of water and I showered at my gross gym showers that Friday, but cooking/dishes, brushing our teeth, showering for Adam, and going to the bathroom become huge dilemas. We finally broke down Saturday and went to stay in a hotel and are planning on attaching our receipt and taking it out of our rent. I wanted to order the most expensive room service items just to spite John the Landlord, but Adam thought that was inappropriate.

Yesterday before work the water still wasn't on, so I washed my face and brushed my teeth with a bowl of bottled water and left for work probably not looking the best ever, but when I got home the water was back on!

I can now say that I have a much greater appreciation for the modern luxury of running water! I don't think I have ever enjoyed doing dishes and laundry as much as I did yesterday when I got home!

"Spring Break" with Panichi

Panichi, one of my college BFF's, is on her final spring break and decided to come out west for some fun in the sun. I decided to take a spring break too in honor of her visit.

She got here last Tuesday and we spent Tuesday and Wednesday going for walks, going out to eat, hanging out at home, and laying out at pools. Very fun and very relaxing!

Thursday we began a roadtrip of the state of Arizona. We drove to Tucson so she could see my sister and her kids and where they live. We basically hung out at their house and pool. Ellie was VERY excited to have someone new around and loved that Panichi let her play barbershop the whole time. Panichi had about 50 bows on her head and about two bottles of detangler the whole time we were there.

Friday evening we drove to Phoenix to meet up with Panichi's dad and brothers. They were there for Cubs spring training and were staying at a really fun resort. I basically just stayed to go out to dinner and hang out for one night then left early Saturday morning for my long (boring) desert drive home.

It was so much fun having Panichi around for the week! Hopefully next year (even though she'll be done with school) she'll make it out here for her third annual southwest spring break!

This past week has been beautiful here! Sunny and in the high 60s lower 70s. We spent the whole weekend outside with friends and Diggy.

This bed isn't big enough for the three of us...

I love Diggy more than anything, but Adam and I do get annoyed sometimes because he can make sleeping situations very unpleasant. Certain nights, he can be a real nuisance. Examples...many Saturday mornings he will be ready to wake up while we want to keep sleeping. His solution: Come lay on my hair/pillow/head (never Adam's). If I keep sleeping, he takes a paw and pats me until I get up. If I put him in the kitchen and shut him out, he barks. It's always easier just to get up. Other times he won't be tired (cause he is lazy and sleeps ALL day) so he will lick and lick and lick when we're trying to fall asleep. 95% of the time though he is really good and sleeps at the foot of the bed or on the floor or on a pillow, so I like him to get to sleep in our room cause it makes him happy.

Last night, however, was a sign that either he needs to be less spoiled with his sleeping priveleges or that we need a bigger bed. I woke up and noticed that I was in a position like I was in a straight jacket laying on my right arm and I was smashed abnormally close to Adam. Then I sat up and noticed I was in the middle/left side of the bed, Adam's side. I look over to my side and there lies Diggy, on his stomach with his legs out to the sides of him as far as they can go, sound asleep and snoring. He is a little guy, but he definitely was hogging my whole side of the bed! Was I annoyed? Yes, but just as I picked him up and moved him away, his tail starts wagging uncontrollably, he rolled over to his back, tongue sticking out and all, and was so happy to start his day out snuggling in a warm bed with his mommy, hehe. I think we need to start looking for a bigger bed because although my arm hurts from sleeping in such a cramped position, I love waking up to my happy puppy :)

New Job

No, I didn't quit my job at Share the Care (I could never leave the beautiful, flexible schedule and nice bosses I have), BUT I got an additional job working 1 afternoon per week at a health clinic as a perinatal dietitian. It seems like it is meant to be, it fits perfectly into my schedule here, and the great part is that I will still have Fridays off. I am working at the clinic Thursdays at 1PM and just making my days a tad bit longer M-W. My favorite rotation of my internship was perinatal, so I am really excited. I go in to get trained on March 16 and start on the 19th. Wish me luck!

If you catch me reading books on pregnancy and gestational diabetes, remember I'm NOT pregnant...it's research for work. I need to brush up on my pregnancy knowledge in the next few weeks!
