My weekend as a single woman

For those of you who don't know, Adam went to climb Mount Whitney this past weekend. I don't know much about climbing mountains, but according to Adam it is going to be really hard. I'll be excited to see how it went. To be honest, it would be my greatest nightmare...huge backpack, no shower for 3 days, sleeping in a tent on a mountain, dried foods, and bugs. He gets back tonight so we'll see how it went!

I was considering going to Katie's for the weekend since he was gone (I thought I'd be bored), but when the weekend was getting closer, I was actually sort of excited to have a boring weekend with lots of alone time. For the whole summer pretty much we have had stuff going on, so it just sounded nice to not dry my hair, not wear makeup, and do all low key stuff. Saturday was a great day...I woke up (at about 6:30AM thanks to Diggy letting me know he had to go potty), worked out, and cleaned up by 9:30 AM, so I made it to the beach at 10 AM. It was already sunny, so this time of the day was sooooo nice! Anyways, I got there and bought an extra large diet coke and had my book and planned on staying for an hour or two. The weather was GREAT though, my book was getting soooooo good, and the diet coke was plentiful, so I ended up staying til about 2:30PM. It was so relaxing and felt soooo good. I then realized I was starving so picked up some lunch, went home and showered, ate, then snuggled with Diggy and watched the movie "Run Fat Boy Run" It was so funny. I highly suggest it.

Sunday morning Diggy let me sleep in until about 8AM then I went on a really, really long walk through Balboa Park, up to Hillcrest through the farmers market, and then home. Then I took Diggy on a mini walk (he gets tired and hot!) and let him play in the backyard for awhile. After he started getting filthy and tired, I took him in and went to the party store to buy gear for his first birthday party I am having when I go to my sister's on Oct. 10! Kristie and Katie's kids will be there so I'm throwing a little bash for him, hehe. Finally, I went home and hung out with the dog again. When it's just the two of us, he likes it so much because he gets so much attention. Well, I was reading my book and really into it and he started doing this thing where he puts his paw on me and pats my leg until I give him attention. Finally, I put the book down and started rubbing his ears and talking to him and then he just looks into my eyes like he is listening and totally understands, almost like a human, haha. Then I kind of made up in my head that in a past life, Diggy was a person and I was his real mom and that's why we love eachother so much. I know I'm psycho, but I feel like I wouldn't love a dog this much if there wasn't something more to the equation, hehehe. Maybe it seems impossible, but I'll pretend in my own mind it's true!

Enough of my craziness, after my "moment" with my dog/son I decided to go to bed and read. I ended up reading for 2 hours because my book is soooooo good. It's called "Fierce People" and I HIGHLY recommend it! Anyways, when I finally put it down, it was a really mysterious/twisted part, and I realized I was scared to go to bed, haha. My mom always asks if I'm scared if Adam isn't there and I always say "no way" but it happened last night. I turned my fan off so I could hear any noise (I usually don't even consider sleeping without the sound of a fan) and turned the light on in the bathroom and slept with a night light for the first time in my life.

The weekend was great and relaxing, but I think I've had enough alone time. It was good to see my work friends today and I'm excited for Adam to get home. Hopefully tonight I won't have to sleep with a night light if he's home :)

The Roleys Visit San Diego

Friday my sister Katie and her family came to visit us. It was so funny cause they weren't supposed to get here until late Friday night so Katie was going to bring the kids in and try to keep them asleep...around midnight the door burst open and there were Ellie and Tate wide awake and hyper! Haha! So much for that, but they were good and went back to sleep soon after!

Me and Kate by the museum

Saturday we woke up and me, Lexie, and Katie took a walk down to Little Italy and Downtown so they could see some of the places Adam and I walk and hang out. When we got back, we got ready and took the kids to the new Children's Museum downtown. (Adam and I walk by it all the time and think it looks so fun!) It was really neat-the kids got to paint, sculpt clay, blow bubbles, build with blocks, climb a wall, and jump around in the giant pillow fight room. When I say the "kids" got to do all this stuff Adam and Matt are included-they took part in all of the activities and at one point I thought Adam was going to get kicked out of the pillow fight room, haha.

Me, Lexie, Tate, and Katie at the bubble station

After the museum we ate Mexican for lunch and headed to the Coronado Beach. Tate LOVED it! They all had a lot of fun. Ellie even let Lexie burry her in the sand and they all got a chance to try to ride on Adam's surf board!

That night we all stayed home and hung around our house in comfy clothes. It was fun because whenever people visit they want to try out the restaurants, so I really enjoyed just entertaining at our house. The kids played with Diggy and watched a movie and us adults ate dinner(I made cioppino for the first time ever) and had drinks outside. Even though we were stuffed into our tiny house, I had so much fun. Tate even told Katie that it was fun sleeping on the floor and having a sleep over at my house :)

Tate, Matt, and Adam
Sunday we woke up and Adam and I took the girls to one of our favorite coffee shops for coffee (and apple juice :) and then we all drove to La Jolla Cove. It was really fun to see how much the kids liked seeing the crabs, seals, etc. They got dirty and sandy and loved it. Then they had to go home. It went really fast, so I'm excited for them to come back! We are going to visit them and more of our family in Tucson in 3 weeks though, so it won't be long. I love having them so close!

Our trip to San Francisco

We went to San Fran for the second time this week (the first time we both forgot our cameras so I don't have pictures of most of the touristy things we did that trip). It was such a great trip and so nice not to go to work M-W!

View before our walk over the bridge

We got there Sunday (Adam had a work training Monday-Wednesday) around 11AM. Diggy was take care of by Robbie (and he did a great job-he even came home at lunch to see him like I do, Yay for Robbie!). As soon as we got there we checked into our hotel early, dumped our bags, and were off the Golden Gate Park. It was a really nice day (cool but sunny) and we took a walk across the bridge. I couldn't help but sing "Everywhere you look..." the Full House theme song and imagine Uncle Jesse driving the family by in that red convertible (that would have been my childhood dream). The view from the bridge was awesome and it was a pretty good length walk. Once we got across we walked about 2 miles further down this hill into Sausalito. It was so cute with tons of restaurants and shops on the bay. We ate lunch at this place where I had the best salad I have ever eaten in my life-dungenous crab louie(I have eaten a lot of salads in my day too!). It was sunny and warm and we just enjoyed ourselves so much! Then we took the ferry back to the city (and went by Alcatraz on the way) and ended up at Pier 1. We walked around the Ferry Building Market Place, which is a building with tons of cute little shops in it, then walked back to our hotel. After that we got ready and enjoyed the wine and cheese happy hour at our hotel. Hotel Nikko was really nice and had lots of good little perks like that. Finally, we went to dinner at this cute wine place by our hotel called First Crush and went home, sat in the hot tub, and went to bed. It was a long day but really fun and we did/saw a lot!

The door at First Crush-vines melted into glass-really pretty!

The next day Adam had his training, so it was the perfect opportunity for me to SHOP. The shopping there is sooooo sooooo excellent. I honestly left that morning at 9 AM and didn't get back until 4 PM because it was just non-stop fun! Once Adam got back from his training we went to the pool area, got ready, and did some research because we wanted to hang out at some of the more local places! We went to an area called Soma and found this neat place called Orson that was a warehouse converted into a restaurant/bar for a little happy hour, then we went to dinner at a gastropub (pub with fancy food) called Anchor and Hope. Finally, we went back and had a drink at our favorite place Gold Dust...this place looks exactly as it does in the pictures about a million years ago and has drinks for 2-4 dollar range. It was hopping at all times and had live music nightly! We wound up here a lot :)

Tuesday I got up again and shopped til I dropped. Adam got done at his class early so we met up and walked around the artsy area and looked in a few more shops. That night we found my favorite bar ever called Swig-super cute but modern and warm (fireplace) all at once! We ate at a place called Urban Tavern that was pretty cool and stayed out late for our last night.

Gold Dust's bathroom had tons of graffiti in the stalls-see my addition??? :)

Wednesday I took one last far walk, packed up our stuff, and got ready so we could check out. We had one last "date" at Tom Collichio from Top Chef's sandwich restaurant called Witchcraft. I was just happy to support Tom because he is my celebrity crush (he may be no Brad Pitt, but I like him :) Finally we were on our way to the airport and home.

I had a great time and did so much fun stuff, but it is so nice to be home. Diggy was so happy to see us and although we enjoyed some really fun nights, I am tired of getting ready, eating and drinking out, and even shopping! Tonight Katie and her family are coming from Tucson for the weekend, so I'm so happy to have a more low key family/kids oriented weekend! I can't wait for them to get here!

Not much going on in Cali...

This past weekend, we really didn't have much going on for once. All we did was go out for sushi Friday night, Saturday went to the pool all day, Saturday night got carry out and watched a movie, and Sunday went out for lunch and on a boat ride in the harbor. Adam's work gave him free tickets, so we decided to use them up. It was a nice day out, so it was fun. Overall, a pretty low key weekend!

Yesterday I noticed for the first time since last spring that it was pitch black when my alarm went off. The summer is officially over (at least the weather is still nice though). No matter how much sleep I get, if it's dark out when I get up I feel like it's not enough time to sleep. Diggy apparently feels the same because usually he runs out of his cage when I open it in the morning. Yesterday, he layed in his cage for about five minutes before slowly inching his way out. Poor baby! After work, I went to get a much needed mani/pedi/eyebrow wax on my walk home from the gym. I'm feeling better today, but it still was hard for me and Diggy to get up!!!

Work is so slow this week, and I'm already counting the minutes until the weekend is here unfortunately! I honestly have about 3 little things to do that will take me about 1 hour each, so I'm rationing the work out so each day I have a few minutes of work to do, haha. Tough job, huh? Next week I'm off Monday-Wednesday because we are going to San Francisco Sunday. I'm so excited (more for the part that I don't have to work rather than going to San Fran :)

Hope everybody has a good week!

Lake Tahoe!

Since we had an extra day off this weekend for Labor Day, we planned to go on a roadtrip to Lake Tahoe. Adam's old work friend, Conner, lives in Carson City, Nevada and wanted us to come visit him, so we decided to make a trip to see him and see this lake.

Welcome Sign for Labor Day Weekend

We left before it was light out on Saturday and got there around 3. We went to Conner's house to drop off Diggy (he got to have fun playing with all of Conner's dogs for the weekend!) then to check into our resort. It was really neat-right on the mountains with streams and hot springs. Then Conner showed us around the lake and we went to dinner at his favorite buffet. This night Adam and I were super tired and full, so we just went back to sit in the hottub. I discovered that I forgot to pack a swimsuit of all things, so we ran Target, which was the only shopping we had seen. I had to pick from about 3 swimsuits...I ended up with a turquoise one piece that I probably would never had bought otherwise, but it worked!

Beautiful View driving into Lake Tahoe

Sunday morning we got up and walked around the area, then drove up to the lake to eat lunch. We went to a restaurant right on the water; the sun was shining, the wind was blocked, and it felt great! That afternoon Adam and Conner went to see some old western town, which I didn't have much interest in, so I opted to stay and lay out at the pool!

Us on the Lake

Such pretty water!

Sunday night we went to dinner with Conner at this little place that a lady at the pool told me to go to, then Adam and I went up to the lake to some of the Casinos. After about an hour we'd lost enough money to make us ready to go home, haha.

Finally, Monday, we got up and sat in the hottub one last time, then showered, picked up Diggy, and went home. It was a short weekend for so much driving, but worth it. The lake was beautiful and somewhere we definitely want to go back to!
